Our Vision of Peace

A wholesomely peaceful & prosperous Earth inclusive of all life~non-life in it.

Its Path of Peace through Development as Freedom

On the path of  freedom*, live with & work for solutions of profoundly difficult & unsolved problems that are affecting the wholesome wellbeing of our communities & planet by developing wholesomely empowering development models at the scale of individuals, communities, institutions, culture & consciousness in the interconnected areas of peace, education, livelihood, environment & rural institution development.

*Development as Freedom by Amarty Sen is but one reference for freedoms of the social-political-economic domains that, at least in our worldview, are wholesome with  the depths of the freedom of the great interconnectedness of life, of which is but a part the freedom of the heart~body~mind of human beings, and where the life & teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh are but one reference.

Guiding Principles of Action

Our path, as such, is fundamentally grounded by our Principles of Action whose foundational principle is getting stronger, and on whose bedrock are flowing tributaries of emergent principles:

Foundational Principle

1. Develop practically at the scale of life:

a. Freedom of heart~body~mind as individuals~collectives

b. Truth & loving compassion

c. Living wholesomely with the non-human world, which includes animals, soil, plants, lakes, rivers, and mountains.

Emergent Principles

2. Empower communities directly disempowered by problems to become parts of the solutions

3. Listen to communities to build wholesome movements mindfully of the communities’ context, capability & capacity, scale of economy, pace of its culture, and wisdom of its consciousness

Karunar Kheti Trust, which in Assamese means the The Cultivation Of Compassion Trust, is a start-up non-profit Trust founded on July 30, 2019 and is rooted in Boisahabi Tea Estate that is located in the Selenghat area of Assam's Jorhat district.

Our overarching objective is to work with the rural communities of Assam, in particular its dominant social fabric spun by tea-plantation and traditional village communities, for empowerment based on the interconnected areas of education, healthcare, and livelihood.

Our Trust's concept note presents a comprehensive introduction to our trust, ranging from our deepest motivation to the details of the emergent plans of action and their related set of resources. Our website, at this start-up phase, is extremely basic compared to the richness of our work on the ground, the most important milestones of which we keep updated on our social media links, particularly Facebook and LinkedIn.

We are currently on the first stepping-stone in our landscape of thought-action: Selenghat Valley School is a school that we are building with our community in a collective effort to provide empowering education for our children. It is truly a school being built by the people and for the people.

Our school opened on January 20, 2020 with 80 children in grades Nursery, LKG, and UKG, and we continue to add a higher grade every year. The school is currently in the process of obtaining the required registrations from the Assam state government's Block Education Officer (BEO) and District Education Officer (DEO).

Donations made to Karunar Kheti Trust are qualified for deduction under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961 and also qualify for CSR contributions.

Please stay tuned as we are also working to build and update this site, and our social media links, with all relevant information.
